Addresses appear simple, but can get very complicated in use. The address conundrum exists because elections with mailed ballots use both physical addresses and mailing addresses, while 911 requires physical addresses and has little use for mailing addresses. Both programs require a point location for a physical address, expressed as latitude/longitude. Local government staff in different agencies typically assign and report those. A mailing address is self reported by the voter. We will explore these processes with real-world examples and current standards and best practices.
